Where Americans Want to Travel Abroad and Where They Lose Interest

The pandemic has affected tourism on a large scale, and the initial reports mentioned gradual recovery which now seems to take a leap. The numbers are still much lower than pre-pandemic levels, but the numbers across the EU started to recover in 2021. When it comes to American travelers, over 80% are ready to travel again (given pandemic safety protocols are in place).

Some of the most-visited destinations by American travelers are Cancun, Mexico; London, UK; Paris, France; Berlin and Munich, Germany; San Jose, Santo Domingo, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

On the other hand, destinations such as China, Italy and Hong Kong are some of the destinations that decline in popularity among Americans due to the strict pandemic border restrictions.

Many Americans will be headed overseas and over 50% prefer visiting new destinations. This new travel trend of exploring unknown destinations is a chance for many untapped destinations to boost their tourism-driven economies. These include Bosnia and Herzegovina (Since most people only know about Srebrenica, there is Srebrenica tour that they might try), Bulgaria (Sofia), Cyprus (Ammochostos), Estonia (Tallinn), Latvia (Riga), Montenegro (Perast), Macedonia (Ohrid), Portugal (Monsato), Slovakia (Tatras)…

These countries reopened their gates (entry requirements are simple and easily reached by U.S. citizens) and are ready to welcome American travelers. Each country has its own safety measures and COVID-19 protocol in place, so before you pack your bags and get ready to hit the road do check the status and entry requirements at the U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs.
