Selena Gomez appears to have fallen out with her former best friend and kidney donor Francia Raisa, with the rift spilling over onto social media over the weekend.
The Disney star, 30, was gravely ill with lupus when fellow actress Raisa, now 34, offered to donate her kidney and they underwent the difficult transplant process in 2017.
Gomez detailed her health struggles in her just released documentary, My Mind & Me, but gave no mention of Raisa and in a recent interview in Rolling Stone, Gomez named Taylor Swift as her only celebrity friend in the industry. (Raisa is a Latina actress with a string of TV and film credits, including Bring It On: All or Nothing, The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Grown-ish.)
Francia unfollowed Gomez on Instagram following the release of documentary and was so irked by Gomez’s quote about Swift that she branded it ‘interesting’ in the comments section of an E!News post.
And on Sunday, Gomez left an eyebrow raising comment underneath a TikTok video that discussed how her Raisa unfollowed her in the wake of being snubbed in the documentary.
‘Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know,’ Selena wrote in the comments, shocking her fans in the process.

Francia has since deleted her comment. Meanwhile, Gomez still follows her on Instagram.
Gomez claimed last week that she only really had one close pal on the Hollywood scene, and discussed her friendship with Swift.
‘I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities. My only friend in the industry really is Taylor,’ the Only Murders in the Building star told Rolling Stone magazine last week.
Gomez also spoke about receiving a kidney to Rolling Stone, however her quotes did not mention Raísa being her donor.
Justin Bieber’s ex also gave a candid look into her health battle in her documentary, at one point breaking down into tears as she struggled with her lupus symptoms worsening.
Interesting: It comes after Francia wrote ‘interesting’ on a post by ENews that featured a recent quote from Selena saying that Taylor Swift was her ‘only friend’ in the industry
Responding: ‘Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know,’ the actress, 30, wrote underneath a TikTok clip that talked about how Francia, 34, unfollowed her a day after Gomez’s documentary – which didn’t mention her at all – premiered
In it she comes to terms with the fact that her battle with the autoimmune disease was the toughest it had been in a while as she felt excruciating pain ‘everywhere.’
Selena and Francia have been friends for over 10 years and have even referred to each other as ‘sisters’ in the past.
In July, Francia discussed how she’s had to alter her diet, after she donated a kidney to Selena, who suffers from Lupus – an autoimmune disorder that causes the body’s natural immune defenses to attack healthy tissue.
‘Because I have one kidney functioning and it acts as a filter to my body, I can’t consume as much protein. I eat a lot — I know I’m skinny, but I chow down — so that was a very huge concern for me when I talked to the doctor,’ she told Yahoo Life.
No mention: Gomez’s Apple TV+ documentary, My Mind & Me, which premiered on November 2, detailed her health struggles with Lupus but did not mention Francia or the kidney donation
When she announced the gift of life on social media, Selena shared a picture of herself and Francia is adjoining hospital beds writing a heart-felt thank you.
‘There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,’ Selena wrote. ‘She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.’
At the time the duo also did a joint interview on the Today show, with Gomez detailing just how dire her health situation had been.
‘My kidneys were shutting down. My mentality was to keep going. She lived with me during this interesting time where my kidneys were just done. That was it, and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. The thought of asking someone to do that was really difficult for me. She volunteered and did it. And let alone someone wanting to volunteer, it is incredibly difficult to find a match. The fact that she was a match, I mean that’s unbelievable. That’s not real.’
Not too long ago: A year after her kidney donation, the two were said to be feuding, however they then reconciled with Francia (left) recently attending Selena’s 30th birthday in July
As they were: Selena also shared a TikTok of the duo having fun together in July of this year
Both Francia and Selena, said they ‘went through depression’ post-surgery, according to Self. Francia said it was difficult for Selena because she had complications after the surgery, where her kidney turned around inside of her body and she needed to have emergency surgery to correct it.
Francia said that after surgery, she received a text message Selena that said: ‘I’m so scared I might die.’
She explained: ‘That’s when she got the complication where the kidney turned and broke an artery and she had to go back in and they actually had to take a vein from her leg – so she has a scar right here [pointing to her inner thigh] and build a wall around her artery.’
At the time Francia also showed her scars, which included two on her stomach and one below her belly button.
The songstress also defended Francia after a tasteless joke was made about who really donated the kidney in Saved by the Bell reboot in 2020. The joke was later cut out due to the backlash.
Selena addressed the situation months later, Tweeting: ‘I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently. I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air.’
But just a year after her kidney donation, the two were said to be feuding, with Francia taking an issue with Selena’s ‘unhealthy lifestyle’ and her consuming alcohol following the surgery.
Bonded forever: Gomez said she was ‘forever grateful’ to Francia after the Grown-ish actress tweeted about donating a kidney to the singer in 2017
Sweet: Selena shared a photo of the two in the hospital in 2017 after the donation. ‘There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,’ she wrote at the time
Post surgery: Francia showed off her post-surgery scars, which included two on her stomach and one below her belly button
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN A KIDNEY TRANSPLANT?
The kidneys have several important functions in the body including filtering waste out of the bloodstream and eliminating excess water or toxins in the urine.
People need a kidney transplant if they have severe kidney disease or if the organ is failing.
To determine if someone is a match to donate a kidney, they have to have matching blood types with the receiver.
If this isn’t possible, doctors can lower the antibody levels in both people to see if the organ can still be a match.
Tissue typing tests (HLA) are taken to also determine if the body will reject or accept the intended donor organ.
Parents and siblings are 50 per cent likely to match with someone who needs a donation.
The numbers drop for people outside of the family.
But the most common way that people receive a kidney donation is from someone who has died.
And many people struggle to find a match that is suitable for them.
People can spend years on the transplant list and on dialysis while waiting for a donor match.
Like most surgical procedures, a kidney transplant can cause short-term risks such as blood clots and infection.
Long-term risks can be weight gain, high blood pressure and an increased risk of cancer.
Selena even responded to a commentator who addressed the issue, after she shared a TikTok video where she joked about her drinking.
‘So one of your best friends gives you her kidney and you continue to drink excessively. Damn Selena,’ the user wrote, to which the former Disney star replied, ‘It was a joke a**.’
However, they reportedly reconciled in 2021, after Raisa shared about the process of kidney donation on her social media.
She was also present at Selena’s 30th birthday party in July and Selena shared a TikTok of the duo having fun together that same month.
Meanwhile, Selena and Taylor became friends in 2008 when they were both dating one of the Jonas Brothers.
Swift also recently congratulated Gomez on the premiere of her Apple TV+ documentary, writing on Instagram: ‘So proud of you @selenagomez Love you forever.’

WHAT IS LUPUS?
What is lupus?
It is one of the chronic autoimmune conditions, where the body makes antibodies against itself and starts to attack it. Lupus – Systemic Lupus Erythematotsus (SLE) – has a range of severity. Some sufferers will have only mild problems, others have life-threatening organ damage to the heart and the kidneys.
What are the symptoms?
Tiredness, joint pains and muscle aches. A common first symptom is joint stiffness, particularly in the mornings. Skin and hair problems are a major feature of SLE – a rash in the shape of a butterfly over the cheeks and nose is common, as is hair loss and sensitivity to the sun. Other problems include depression and lung and heart disease, as well as kidney inflammation.
What can it be mistaken for?
It is often mistaken for other joint problems such as rheumatoid arthritis which is also characterised by morning joint stiffness. It can also be misdiagnosed as a skin or blood disease.
How is it diagnosed?
If your GP suspects SLE they will request a blood test. The specific antibodies that attack the body can be measured in the blood. The diagnosis is made when there is the combination of typical symptoms and high antibodies.
Who is at risk?
SLE is ten times more common in women than men and usually develops between the ages 12 and 25.
What is the treatment?
Controlling the symptoms, as there is no cure, using anti-inflammatories and steroid tablets in more severe cases.
