Ron and Casey DeSantis turn Iowa State Representative’s wedding into a campaign stunt as Florida Governor tries to gain ground on Donald Trump
Ron DeSantis and his wife Casey turned an Iowa State Representative’s wedding into a campaign stunt, as DeSantis tried to close the gap between himself and former President Donald Trump.
The Florida Governor had been in the state and made an appearance at the wedding of Iowa State Representative Taylor Collins and his wife Savannah.
DeSantis and his wife walked behind the newlyweds as they made their way into the event held at a building in the state’s capital.
In videos shared to social media, the Florida Governor was greeted by cheers and a standing ovation by the roughly 150 guests.
His appearance at the wedding came just days after former President Donald Trump also crashed a wedding at his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey.

Video footage shows DeSantis enter the wedding reception to loud cheering and whistling as he waves to the crowd.
The newlywed couple quickly move to the side on entering the large room in front of them, with Representative Collins enthusiastically clapping for DeSantis.
Lt. Governor of Iowa Adam Gregg also shared an image of him and his family with DeSantis to his Twitter page.
Posting to Twitter, he said: ‘Congratulations to Taylor Collins and Savannah Collins! So happy for you!
‘Beautiful with a couple surprise special guests. Only in Iowa.’
The New York Times reported that following their arrival, the couple spent time mingling with the guests.
The outlet also reported that the two had been invited last minute by the bride Savannah Collins to the surprise of her husband who previously endorsed DeSantis.
DeSantis had been in the state on a two-day trip across Iowa pressing his recent record in Florida of conservative education, abortion and gender policy, and an equally GOP crowd-pleasing agenda for the nation.
He ignited applause at a Saturday morning event in Cedar Falls promoting a balanced budget amendment and term limits for Congress.
The audience of around 100 were also promised that he would declare a national emergency and dispatch the military to the southern border upon taking office.
Recent polling by the New York Times and Siena College have it that Trump is set to win the state of Iowa, with 55 percent of the vote in the Republican Primaries.
DeSantis is closely following with 39 percent – having nearly doubled since polling late last month.

Since video footage of the two appearing at the wedding surfaced online, they have been criticized for ‘upstaging’ the couples day, with one person highlighting how Jill DeSantis was wearing white.
One person tweeted: ‘DeSantis’ campaign is going so bad he’s forced to be a wedding crasher in order to draw a crowd.’
Another posted: ‘Upstaging the bride and groom on their wedding day is the most Desantis thing I’ve ever seen’.
Journalist Laura Loomer tweeted: Wow. Jill DeSantis really is the type of woman to wear white to another woman’s wedding. You don’t do that. You just don’t ever do that.’
In another tweet, Loomer posted: ‘They are so desperate to be Trump.’

The appearance by the couple came just a few days after former President Donald Trump also crashed a wedding.
Videos circulating on social media show the former President crashing the ceremony of Megan Costello and Gerardo Rojas at his New Jersey gold club to chants of ‘USA!’.
His appearance at the event came just a few hours after he was indicted in a Washington D.C. courthouse.
Trump can be seen wearing what appears to be the same outfit he wore in the courthouse on Thursday, minus the red tie.

After a chant of “USA!” erupts in the crowd, Trump could be seen having a private conversation with a bride and groom before addressing the crowd via microphone.
He says: ‘I heard so much about this couple, the bride is totally beautiful.’
The shouting from the crowd then drowns out Trump as he continues addressing the bride.
Latest polls show that former President Donald Trump is now over 38 percent clear of DeSantis in his quest to be crowned the Republican candidate in 2024.

Trump is currently leading with 53.3 percent in a recent poll, while DeSantis second with just 14.3 percent.
It comes after new polling suggests that if an election was held right now that Donald Trump would beat incumbent President Joe Biden by five percent.
Their survey, which polled 2,068 registered voters, also showed a wide sense of discontent across the country for both major party candidates, with 70 percent looking for another option.
The majority of people polled also agreed that President Biden was mentally unfit to continue to serve as President.
DeSantis campaign pollster Ryan Tyson took issue with the poll’s findings, tweeting that the national sample, collected through an internet panel, is ‘not a likely Republican voter survey that uses vote history.’
