Darren McGrady, who worked as a member of the royal family’s personal chef from 1982 to 1993, expressed disgust at how Netflix reportedly portrayed the death of Princess Diana.
The episode also recreates that moment Prince Charles confirms dead wife’s body in French hospital, shows Princess Diana in open coffin.

At the public and state funeral in September 1997, Princess Diana’s coffin was kept closed and covered with the royal flag.
Darren took to Twitter to express his outrage, writing, “When Princess Diana was laid in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace, her coffin was closed.
“Okay, I was there. This latest from The Crown is sick!”
The publication reports that the decision to put Diana in a coffin has upset the crew working on the hit Netflix series.

One said, “They actually had Elizabeth climb into the coffin and pretend to be dead like Diana. You can see how the ceremony is performed.
“Prince Charles walks into the room and is in tears. That’s it.
“Princes William and Harry never saw their mother dead in a coffin so they don’t need to see this. Neither should the British public.
The crew is said to be concerned that the writers and producers have gone after ratings too much.

Netflix claims the “precise moment” of the crash will not appear in the controversial drama.
A friend of Diana’s said the show’s makers could face accusations of being “insensitive” about filming in Paris. The prince said it was “terrible” to see a reenactment of the moments leading up to his mother’s death.
“It’s obviously awful for Diana’s kids to have to watch it again. It’s insensitive,” she said.
“I think the death and accident of Diana was the biggest shock for our generation.
I think the makers of The Crown feel they have the right to recreate the scenes leading up to her death, and that it will have a dramatic effect. I guess.
Ken Worf, Diana’s former bodyguard, told The Sun that William was “disgusted” by the scene and Charles was “appalled”.
