“Thank you for showing me that there is more than one way to communicate effectively. You taught me that verbal communication is not enough,” he continued.
“I also have to communicate with two ears and two eyes. My job as your father is not to create versions of myself or dictate your future. No. My role is to be the facilitator of your hopes, wishes and dreams.

She continued, “We demand equality at the top of our lungs, yet we consistently fail to build support to protect the most vulnerable among us. Second, black transgender people are targeted, terrorized and hunted down in this country every day, everywhere.
‘And we rarely whisper about it. Honestly, we don’t go into this work as activists and leaders, but rather what we can do to love our children, see them, keep them safe, and keep them safe. I do this as a parent who does all I can.
“This is the value of doing it in a way that builds bridges, doesn’t fan the flames of hatred and division, and doesn’t allow lawmakers and the justice system to look away when black transgender people are under attack. It’s a conversation with someone,” she added.
“It doesn’t drive more young people to hate or hurt themselves, it doesn’t cost people’s lives. So we are humble and hopeful for the future. For justice. I hope to see a real change in the fight, the moment when the movement makes room for everyone. Everyone,” Union said, ending his impassioned speech.
