Four-year-old Athena Brownfield has been missing since at least Tuesday. She received a call from a postal worker who found her sister wandering the streets near her home in Cyril, Oklahoma, and police realized she was missing.
On Thursday, Adams was incarcerated in the county jail on charges of child neglect.
There is still no sign of Athena. Adams’ husband has not been arrested.
It remains unknown why the girls took care of Adams, or if other children lived in the house.
As part of a police investigation, officials said yesterday they are trying to find out where Athena’s biological parents are and if they are connected to her disappearance.
“Right now, our top priority is to find her and sort out who will be responsible next.

“But we need to find this girl,” said Brooke Erbateman, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation.
Athena’s five-year-old sister, whose name has not been released, did not require any medical attention when she was found.
She is now under state protection.
A postal worker told police he quickly realized the child was “not where it should be.”
Once he reported finding her, authorities launched an investigation and determined Athena was missing.
It’s unclear if Adams and her husband were home at the time.
