Migos rapper Takeoff dies in Houston shooting
Takeoff, the rapper for popular rap trio Migos, was shot dead early Tuesday morning after attending a party in Houston, Texas, his attorney and police confirmed.
“My office and I are devastated by the tragic death of Kirshnik Ball, better known to our fans as Takeoff,” attorney Drew Findling said in a statement. Not only was he an amazing musical artist, but he had a kind and gentle soul like no other. He will be and will always be missed.”
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner confirmed at a news conference Tuesday afternoon that Takeoff was killed in the shooting. He urged witnesses to provide information about what happened.
Police said the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. local time at the end of a private party held at 810 Billiards and Bowling. Police said an altercation erupted shortly after the party ended, leading to the shooting.
When officers arrived, they found Takeoff dead on the third floor of the building, police said.
Two people, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were hospitalized with injuries, police said. Police said the two were able to secure private transportation to the hospital and both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Finner spoke with Takeoff’s mother, who had flown in from out of town, before Tuesday afternoon’s press conference.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and still in its early stages, and police are asking the public to report any relevant hints as they investigate surveillance footage from the Houston venue. About 40 to 50 guests attended the private party, according to Houston police.
