Man charged, woman dies after car crashes while racing with child in backseat, SAPD says
San Antonio – A woman has died and a man is in custody after crashing a car during a race on a South Side street Wednesday afternoon, according to San Antonio police.
The incident occurred just before 3:00 pm at Block 1300 on SE Military Drive, not far from Mission Road and Roosevelt Avenue.
According to police, a man and a woman with two children were traveling west with the SE Military when another vehicle traveling east collided as it tried to turn onto Mission Road. did.
Police said the two cars left the road and smashed into a utility pole, then a street light, and crashed through a metal fence. According to SAPD, the female passenger was impaled with a metal bar when the vehicle came to a halt.
Witnesses told officers that the vehicle was speeding and was racing with another vehicle just before the collision occurred.
A 32-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she later died. she is not identified. Police said the children in her backseat were not injured. The men and children were sent to the hospital for testing.
Authorities said the driver, a 31-year-old man, was taken into custody after the crash. He has been charged with causing death in a highway race and endangering a child. The man’s name has not been released.
