How To Clean Outdoor Water Features

The water features should be kept in the best possible condition to ensure that it remains enticing and safe for your outdoor space. This is a frequent practice among nature lovers who want to attract birds to their landscapes. More than simply refilling a birdbath or water fountain when it runs low is needed.

Modern fountain and other water features are more dazzling and relaxing when they are properly maintained, having no stress about algae or any malfunctions. Dirty water features are not only unappealing to birds, but they may also pose a health hazard to other animals and humans. So, to avoid this, here are some cleaning ideas for your outdoor water features.

1. Get rid of the old water.

Dump the old water on the grass or surrounding flowerbeds, but don’t let it pool where birds or other animals could utilize it before evaporating.

2. Clear the Area of Debris

Clean out the water features by removing any loose debris from the bottom. Ensure to remove any big amounts of excrement, dirt, and other impurities from the floor by wiping them off with a disposable cloth or scrub brush. Using a hose’s pressure attachment may also work, but you should be careful not to waste any water.

3. Clean the surface using Bleach solution

Create a bleach solution by searching for the best bleach solution on google. To avoid damaging your plants and grass because of bleach, remove the water feature from the garden or lawn and wash it in an area where the bleach will not be splashed into the surface. Scrub the basin, lip, and any other places of the water feature thoroughly. It may be required for really unclean fountains to let the bleach solution soak for a few minutes. While the water feature is soaking, keep an eye on it or cover it firmly to ensure that no birds or animals go into the bleach-filled water.

4. Cleanse the water feature with clean water

Remove any remaining chemical foam by rinsing the water feature well with running water after the cleaning process. Some residual chlorine smell may linger, but it should not be as unpleasant as the fresh-cleaned public pool’s scent.

5. Allow the water feature to dry before storing it completely.

Rinse well and let the water feature dry completely in the sun to break down any excess chlorine so that the refilled water is safe. If you have a birdbath, bird cleaning, feeding, or other bird-related tasks may be done at this time. Finally, use fresh, clean water and make sure the basin is steady, so it doesn’t overflow.

It’s not difficult to clean water features if you have the right equipment and take the time to clean it thoroughly. In addition, the weather, the quality of your water, the placement of the water features, and if birds are using it all have a role in how often you should clean water features. You should clean your fountain twice a week, or if you notice discoloration in your fountain’s water or on the basin’s bottom. You may need to clean the water feature more often at certain seasons of the year, such as during the hot summer months or in the autumn when leaves fall into the water.
