Ground crew dies in accident at Montgomery, Alabama airport

Montgomery, Alabama. — A member of the airline’s ground crew who worked at the Alabama airport died Saturday afternoon in an accident at the facility.

An American Airlines/Piedmont Airlines employee died in an “industrial accident” around 3 p.m., the Montgomery Regional Airport said in a statement.

“We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of an AA/Piedmont Airlines team member,” airport executive director Wade Davis said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. .”

In a post on Twitter, the airport said normal operations would resume at 8:30 p.m. and that an FAA investigation into the incident was ongoing.

American Airlines did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press requesting additional information.
