Five children died Sunday after the group’s SUV crashed into a tree and started a fire in Scarsdale, N.Y., just after midnight.
Local police said the vehicle was driven by a 16-year-old boy who, for unknown reasons, veered off the road and hit a tree in Westchester County.
A 9-year-old boy in the ‘rear hatchback/cargo area’ survived the crash and was able to exit the vehicle.
Parents of five children, ages 8 to 17, posted heartbreaking tributes on social media Sunday afternoon.
His father, Anthony Billips, said in a Facebook post, “This is the most painful post I have ever had to write. ‘I don’t want this to happen to anyone in this world.'”

Police said the 16-year-old man behind the wheel may have fallen asleep, driving him and the Nissan Rogue off the road, according to WABC.
The car burst into flames after hitting a tree, killing the driver, three boys and two girls. All lived in Derby, Connecticut.
The children’s names and their respective ages are unknown at this time, but the family has posted a photo of the deceased to express their condolences.

While speaking to the media, Westchester Police spokesperson Kieran O’Leary said one surviving child “somehow managed to get out of the back.”
A 9-year-old boy who survived was taken to Westchester Medical Center. He was in stable condition on Sunday afternoon.
Crash is under investigation as the family mourns the loss.
In social media posts, the family asked their friends and loved ones for their prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.
“Lord, I don’t understand why you had to take our baby,” wrote Nicole Cross. Her children were killed in a shipwreck.
“God, give us strength,” said Cross.
“These kids please pray for my family as to why this is happening….I don’t know what to do or how to handle this issue.God help us Please,” wrote the grieving woman.

“I cannot even imagine the pain this family is going through. I pray that God will help them find peace and healing,” wrote one.
“May their memory be a blessing,” said another person who left the donation.

In a statement to WABC, the superintendent of the local Connecticut school district where the family lives called the incident “unimaginable.”
Superintendent Matt Conway said he reached out to one of the parents to offer condolences and resources if the family were in need.
“It is unimaginable. Having to make arrangements for the burial of five children is extremely difficult for anyone.
