U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told lawmakers last week that the Treasury Department’s ability to pay all of the government’s bills could run out as early as June 1.
She told CNBC on Monday that there is a “huge gap” between the positions of Democrats and Republicans, and warned that not raising the debt ceiling would result in “economic catastrophe.”
