Biden visits Japan for G7 talks
US President Joe Biden was in Japan on Thursday to attend a G7 summit that is expected to focus on countering China’s economic practices and helping Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
Shortly after landing, Mr. Biden greeted about 400 Japanese and American soldiers at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.
He was then scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Hiroshima, the site of the G7 summit.
The G7 Summit will also include leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the European Union.
Kishida also invited a group of non-member countries to attend the summit as part of their engagement with the Global South. These countries include Australia, Brazil, Comoros, Cook Islands, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Ukraine and Vietnam.
The leaders are expected to discuss China’s use of trade and investment restrictions, boycotts and sanctions. Possible actions by the G7 include export restrictions and restrictions on investment in China from these countries.
