Arlington Public Library Ends Late Fees
Arlington, TX — If you’re crouching or dodging to avoid a current fine, Arlington Public Library (APL), take it easy. As of last Saturday, they announced they would be free on track.
Patrons will no longer be charged for overdue library items. All current fines will be waived immediately, but may take several weeks to reflect in your account.
Please note that fees for damaged or lost items, or late fees for consortium or interlibrary loan items, still apply. Waivers apply only to late fees.
APL’s goal in eliminating late payment penalties is to remove financial barriers for patrons and make their service fairer. Late fees do more harm to low-income communities than they promote on-time returns, according to APL.
“This is an important step in removing barriers to access. Becoming a fine-free library is our commitment to equal opportunity for all patrons,” said Library Director Norma Zuniga. I’m here. “We hope that by eliminating late fines, we will be able to reconnect with patrons who have not visited the library in a long time.”
