American actress and producer Jessica Chastain was praised for playing the Christian evangelist Tammy Faye Messner in the 69th edition of “Tammy Faye’s Eyes” at Spain’s largest film festival.
Chastain shared the Best Performance Award with 16-year-old Flora Ofelia Hofmann Lindahl, who starred in the Danish film “As in Heaven” (“Dus som er i him len”). Tea Lindeburg won the Best Director Award for the same film.
It was the first time a film festival had awarded a gender-neutral award, and there were no separate categories for men and women.
Tatiana Ueso’s “Stolen Prayer” (“Noche de fuego”) won the award for the best Latin American film.
Other winners include Claire Mathon, who won the Best Cinematography for “Undercover” (“Enquête surunscandale d’état”), and Lucile Hadzihalilovic, who won her special festival award for the movie “Earwig”.
