Five children of same family killed in New York car crash

Five children died Sunday after the group’s SUV crashed into a tree and started a fire in Scarsdale, N.Y., just after midnight.

Local police said the vehicle was driven by a 16-year-old boy who, for unknown reasons, veered off the road and hit a tree in Westchester County.

A 9-year-old boy in the ‘rear hatchback/cargo area’ survived the crash and was able to exit the vehicle.

Parents of five children, ages 8 to 17, posted heartbreaking tributes on social media Sunday afternoon.

His father, Anthony Billips, said in a Facebook post, “This is the most painful post I have ever had to write. ‘I don’t want this to happen to anyone in this world.'”

Superintendent Matt Conway said he reached out to one of the parents to offer condolences and resources if the family were in need.
