SAN ANTONIO – A multi-family rental building called West End on Frio is celebrating its grand opening this week.
The 24-unit rental complex, located on 711 S Frio Street, will provide affordable labor opportunities near the city center near the West Side in District 5.
Ten of the units will be available to families with incomes below or below 50% of the district’s average income – no more than $ 37,050 for a family of four.
The other two units will be available for families whose income is at or below 80% of the district’s average income – no more than $ 59,300 for a family of four.
The first phase of the project was funded by the Neighborhood Improvement Bond Program 2017-2022.
The West End on Frio apartments have 2 bedrooms and 2 high-quality bathrooms. The complex was originally planned to be just 12 units, but the developer, Terramark Urban Homes, managed to buy a neighboring plot of land to double the project to 24 units, city officials said.
“This development demonstrates that through careful and thoughtful design, we can take a lot of 0.3 acres and develop it into small rental homes at affordable prices that San Antonio has not seen in decades,” said Veronica R. Soto, director. of the city department “Neighborhood and Housing Services”.
The $ 20 million bond program is the first ever housing bond in the city of San Antonio.
“The main goal is the purchase and preparation of sites for private sector development of single-family or multi-family housing construction,” the press release said.
