Waxahachie Police Investigate “Worst Incident of Vandalism” at Century City Cemetery – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

WAXAHACHIE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – The historic headstones, including the sign of Emory Rogers, one of the first settlers and founders of Waxahachie, were vandalized in the City Cemetery on Hawkins Street.

“This is the worst case of vandalism we have ever seen in the City Cemetery. Most of the affected markers are very old and will be difficult and expensive to repair, ”said Gumaro Martinez, Executive Director of Parks and Recreation Services.

Vandals either destroyed or damaged 275 tombstones, many of which were either overturned and / or broken.
Although the wreckage affected both new and historic areas of the cemetery, police said most of the damage was done to old stones, some more than 100 years old.
