HUBERT, NC — An Alexandria man drove more than 300 miles to confront a 27-year-old man he said was dating his daughter, then killed him in the fight, according to authorities in eastern North Carolina.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said emergency personnel found Jared Musgrove suffering from two gunshot wounds at a Hubert mobile home park on July 5. Musgrove was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators learned that James McCalley, 46, of Alexandria, Virginia, drove to confront Musgrove, who was allegedly having an affair with McCalley’s adult daughter, and a physical altercation ensued, the sheriff’s office said. After the men left, McCaly pulled a gun from the truck and shot Musgrove, the sheriff’s office said.
On Monday, the U.S. Marshals Service and a sheriff’s office detective located McAleen and arrested him. He was charged with murder and initially held without bail. Tuesday, a judge. A District Court judge set McCallie’s bond at $500,000 on Tuesday, WITN-TV reported. Court records do not list an attorney for McAlee, court officials said.
