Taipei (Reuters) -Taiwan’s official central news agency said on Thursday that five members of the US House of Representatives will arrive in Taiwan on Friday for a short trip focused on a meeting with the island’s Ministry of Defense. I reported.
The trip comes as China intensifies military and political pressure to claim sovereignty over the island and has caused anger in Taipei, where the government has vowed to defend Taiwan’s freedom and democracy.
According to the report, the delegation will consist of Veterans Commission Chairman Mark Takano, Colin Allred, Elissa Slotkin, Sara Jacobs and Nancy Mace, and will also meet with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Defense declined to comment. The de facto US embassy in Taipei did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Five lawmakers are currently in East Asia on a Thanksgiving trip to Japan and South Korea.
This month will be my second visit to Taiwan.

Like most countries, the United States has no official relationship with Taiwan, but is the most important international supporter and arms supplier of a democratically dominated island against Beijing’s wrath. ..
