Mookie Betts hit his 25th lead-off home run in his big league career, and the Los Angeles Dodgers remained in control of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 6-3 victory on Thursday.
Betts took the third pitch from Mitch Keller (3-7) and sent it over the centerfield fence to the bullpen for his sixth home run this season. Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner each scored two hits, and Zach McKinstry drove in two runs when Los Angeles won the Pirates 13 times in a row. Phil Bickford won his first save when the game was called with one out in eight tops after a one hour and fifteen minute rain delay.

Julio Urías (9-2) became the winner of the first nine major games with six innings to give Los Angeles a bit of a break from the overweight bullpen. Urías added a two-run single on Keller’s third off after Pirates deliberately walked through catcher Austin Barnes to load two outs on walks.
The victory gave the Dodgers their sixth series sweep of the season. It also coincided with their longest streak against Pittsburgh. They played 13 consecutive games from pirates from May 4th to July 20th, 1952, when the franchise was in Brooklyn.
Keller, who left his previous start last Friday after just two innings with what the team called a “heat-related illness,” remains a bit of a mystery. Penciled in to become part of the core of the team’s rotation as the franchise went through the larger overhaul, 25-year-old he struggled with his orders. 2 2/3 Sustained innings He walked three and hit a pair of batters, then throwing 41 out of his 72 pitches for a strike.
Bryan Reynolds hit the team’s leading pirates with 10 home runs. Adam Frazier extended his consecutive hits to 13 of his career’s best, but Pittsburgh fell short of .500 (12-11) in late April and then fell for four consecutive games in the last 38 games. It became 11-27.
Los Angeles rescuers covered 7 1/3 innings with a 2-1 victory that was delayed by rain on Wednesday night. Urías wasn’t particularly sharp — he allowed at least one base runner in each of the first four innings — but avoided major trouble.
It helps Betts to patrol the light field. Betts saved Ran when he played great to throw Pittsburgh’s Erik Gonzalez on the second plate. The five Gold Glove Awards tracked a line drive sinking from the bat Kaaitom on a shallow right and spun 360 degrees home. One hopper arrived just before Gonzales slipped his left hand under the catcher Austin. Burns’s radical tag.
Urías allowed 3 runs with 6 hits in 6 innings without a walk. His only major mistake was that Reynolds played golf in the left field and pulled the pirates within 4-3, giving Reynolds two outs with a one-to-two curve ball. Urias has also proven useful to have a bat in his hand. From the third Keller’s sharp single to the light off, he drove in two runs, and this season’s RBI was seven with only 29 at-bats. He had a total of four RBIs in the first four seasons of his career entering 2021.
