Two girls, 13 and 15 years old, were arrested in Washington, DC on charges of felony murder. Police said the man died in a rollover accident as he tried to carjack a UberEats driver.
The incident occurred on Tuesday shortly after 4:30 pm on 1200 blocks of Van Street SE near the National Park and was partially videotaped.
In the footage shot by a neighbor and shared with NBC4, a dark Honda Accord is leaning against a curb, and two National Guards are pulling a pair of teenage girls from a fallen vehicle.
The video shows a chaotic scene in Washington, DC on Tuesday. There, a UberEats driver died after a Honda Accord crashed and turned over during a carjacking attempt by two teenage girls.
The National Guard pulled out 13- and 15-year-old girls from the victim’s capsized car. One of them is depicted on an orange sweatshirt just off the victim’s body.
A few steps away, you can see a man in a light-colored shirt lying still on the sidewalk.
The victims were identified as three fathers and grandfather Mohammad Anwar, 66, from Springfield, Virginia. He was rushed to the hospital but couldn’t be saved.
The Metropolitan Police Department described the felony murder and armed carjack suspects as a 13-year-old girl in Southeast DC and a 15-year-old girl in Fort Washington, Maryland. They are boys, so they are not named.
Anwar, an immigrant from Paquistona, left behind a wife, three grown-up children, and four grandchildren.
Two teens approached his car and shot him with a taser in an attempt to steal the car while Anwar was delivering UberEats on Tuesday, officials said.
According to witnesses, Anwar fought and the car crashed and rolled over.
Anwar was kicked out on the sidewalk and suffered fatal injuries such as head injuries and broken bones.
Two state guards in the area took the boy from the capsized car and detained them until police arrested him in response to the scene.
The family said Anwar moved from Pakistan to the United States in 2014 and engaged in food delivery to feed his wife, three adult children and four grandchildren.
“The family has been overwhelmed by this nonsensical crime,” a relative said in a statement. “Mohammad Anwar was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, and uncle here in America and in Pakistan, where he was born.”
Prosecutors said Anwar was in his car and used a stun gun to drive gear when the girls entered.
Honda bumped into something and kicked Anwar out on the sidewalk, then turned over to the side
WUSA9 reported that the two suspects appeared in the first court on Wednesday.
Prosecutors alleged that a teenage girl boarded Anwar’s Honda and moved her gear to drive while the victim was sandwiched between the driver’s seat and the door.
The car then slowed down the Van Street SE as Anwar was hanging. According to the prosecution, when Honda hit something, the door turned back and hit an unwar.
When the car suddenly turned right on North Street SE, Anwar floated in the air and landed on the ground before Honda collided with two parked cars.

The judge concluded that the two teenage girls threatened the community and were at potential flight risk and ordered them to be detained until their next court appearance scheduled for March 31.
Meanwhile, the victim’s niece has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support traditional Islamic funeral payments for him. As of Thursday morning, over $ 85,000 had been raised.
“I can’t really describe how our family feels right now,” Lehra Bogino wrote in the campaign description. “Desolation, turmoil, shock, anger, heartache, and anguish are just a few examples that come to mind. We always take him, but it’s so tragic and so unexpectedly that he loses quickly. Does not get rid of the pain.
