Russia’s opposition leader Alexei Navalny called Twitter’s ban on President Trump an “unacceptable censorship” that could be abused by oppressive governments around the world.
Trump’s account @realdonaldtrump was banned by social media giants on Friday following the president’s reaction to this week’s parliamentary riots.
“In my opinion, the decision to ban Trump was based on emotions and personal political preferences,” Navalny wrote on Twitter.
He said the president had written “very irresponsible” on the platform, but paid for it by losing re-election.
“Don’t say he was banned for violating Twitter rules. I’ve been threatened with murder here every day for years, and no one has banned Twitter (I’m asking). That’s not the case), “continued Navalny. He said “cold-blooded murderers” such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro are allowed on the platform.
Lindsey Graham mistakenly bans Trump’s Twitter
Putin’s most prominent enemy, Navalny, flew to Germany two days after becoming ill on a Russian domestic flight on August 20. Labs determined that he was exposed to Soviet-era Novichok nerve agents, and Navalny claims that Putin’s agents have since tried to poison him.
Mr Navalny said there are many examples of private companies, such as Twitter becoming a “best friend” in Russia and China and respecting censorship requests.
“This precedent will be abused by enemies of free speech around the world, as well as in Russia,” said Russian dissidents. “Whenever they need to silence someone, they’ll say:” This is just a common practice, even Trump was blocked on Twitter. ”
Navalny called on Twitter to set up a committee to handle decisions about who can tweet and who can’t. “We know the names of the members of this committee, how they work, how they vote, and how we can appeal to their decisions. You need to understand. “
Twitter has also banned Trump’s campaign account, Team Trump, and presidential allies such as General Michael Flynn and lawyer Sidney Powell.
Conservatives have warned that they may be the next victims of the Big Tech crackdown.
Twitter permanently suspends @realDonaldTrump account
“Twitter may ban me with this, but I’m happy to accept that fate,” said Senator Lindsey Graham, RS.C. Tweeted on Saturday. “Ayatollah can tweet, but not Trump. He says a lot about the people who run Twitter.”
Twitter defended the ban, attacking the Capitol earlier this week, killing five people, including police officers, and many upset lawmakers calling for Trump’s resignation or impeachment.
“After scrutinizing recent tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them, especially how they were received and interpreted on Twitter, we suspended the account altogether because of the risk of further incitement to violence.” The company says.Written in Blog post Friday night.

The platform temporarily locked Trump’s account earlier this week after dubbing some of his tweets as a contributor to the siege of the Capitol on Wednesday-an unprecedented move. Lawmakers held a joint session to count the votes of the Electoral College, who confirmed that Trump had been defeated by Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
