Filmmakers Denis Villeneuve and Alanis Obomsawin were honored at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of this year.

TIFF co-heads Joana Vicente and Cameron Bailey announced Thursday that Bill Neuve will receive the TIFF Evert Director Award and Ovom Sawin will receive the Impact Media Jeff Scall Award at the 2021 TIFF Tribute Awards. Both are Canadian.

Villeneuve is known for film directors such as “Prisoners” and “Blade Runner 2049” and was nominated for an Oscar for the 2016 movie “Arrival”. His new film “Dune” will be screened at a post-world premiere festival in Venice.
