Tom Cruise’s winning streak continues with the Stellar New Trailer “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning”.

Cruise has been on an extended victory lap lately. Top Gun Maverick receives rave reviews, including at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a enthusiastic ovation and received an honorary Palme d’Or. At Cannes, too, Cruise dropped a rogue-worthy one-liner when aasked by a journalist why he is risking his life to perform these high profile stunts, and replied, “Nobody asked Gene Kelly, ‘Why are you dancing?'” Industry stories circulate about the power he still wields over film studios in the form of massive box office backends and extended theatrical release dates; he is called the last movie star.

So Paramount picked the perfect time to release the first trailer Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the incredibly titled seventh installment in the franchise, set for release on July 14, 2023. The trailer gives us a glimpse of perhaps the film’s most hyped stunt – Tom Cruise riding a motorcycle off a cliff. The scene was teased at CinemaCon 2021 and reportedly took at least six takes to perfect. We don’t learn too much about the plot from this trailer, although there are several stunning shots of a character crossing the desert on horseback, a fistfight in an underground tunnel, and Cruise evading capture in a bumblebee-colored smart car.

Footage of a train being pulled off a cliff during filming of the film in England surfaced online last August. This scene appears during a montage near the end of the trailer. And classic Impossible Mission Vogue, it seems Cruise is… fighting someone… on the train, which along with Henry Cznery’s return makes a nice callback to the very first mission Movie from ’96.

As Top Gun, Mission Impossible has been delayed multiple times, due in large part to the pandemic. It was originally scheduled for Memorial Day 2022, which was eventually pushed back to September and finally to its current date of July 2023. Controversy simmered around the film when audio footage showing Cruise targeting crew members for not adhering to COVID-19 protocols leaked.

“We are the gold standard. They’re back in Hollywood making movies about it right now us. Because they believe in us and what we do,” Cruise said in the clip. “We’re creating thousands of jobs, you motherfuckers.”

It is assumed in the industry Dead Reckoning Part 2, Due for release in June 2024, it will mark Cruise’s departure from the franchise, although it’s hard to imagine the 59-year-old star willingly hanging up his tactical leather jacket and lifelike masks.
