Thursday, the last day to register in time for the May elections

Texas — Believe it or not, Texas’ election day is just around the corner. In fact, to vote on May 1st, you must register by Thursday, April 1st.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott elected May 1st as a special election earlier this year to replace Republican US Congressman Ron Wright.

Wright died on February 7, this year, after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

There are several other important races. For example, residents of San Antonio decide on the mayor, the seats of the city council, and two proposals.

In the north, voters in Fort Worth, Plano and Arlington decide on the mayor.

If you need to register to vote, you will need to complete a voter registration application and return it to the county election office. There are three options.

To register as a voter, you need to:

  • Being a US citizen.
  • Being a resident of the county submitting the application.
  • Must be 17 years and 10 months or older and 18 years or older on the election day.
  • It is not a felony convicted.
  • Not declared fully or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote by the court

The early voting period for the May 1 election begins on April 19th and ends on April 27th.
