The Texas lawmaker says the United States should accept more refugees from Ukraine

For Rep Marc Veasey, President Joe Biden’s promise that the United States will accept 100,000 refugees fleeing Ukraine is just the beginning.

DALLAS – As for Congressman Marc Veasey, President Joe Biden’s promise that the United States will accept 100,000 refugees fleeing Ukraine is just the beginning.

The United Nations says more than 3.5 million people have fled Ukraine, more than half of them to Poland, where the president recently visited US troops and humanitarian workers.

Veasey says our country can do more.

“Let’s start with 100,000, but let’s do more,” he said. Of course, we can learn more than that. And I would support a higher figure, “said Veasey Within Texas Policy.

Like much of the United States, the Democrat from North Texas is watching Judge Sen. Brown Jackson’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on his candidacy for the United States Supreme Court.

He praised Jackson’s stance during intensive questioning of Republicans, some of whom said he deliberately raised issues that had nothing to do with his approval, such as Veasey, a critical race theory.

“I really hate it was so divisive,” the Democrat said. “I think most of the inquiries from Republicans are, frankly, deliberately racially motivated.”

The Senate will vote on Jackson’s candidacy on April 4.

Not only is Congressman Veasey waiting for him to step down from the committee, he is waiting for Jackson to be fully approved by the Senate, even if it is a party-line vote opposed by all Republicans.

Some questions have been raised about whether Democratic senators Kirsten Cinema and Joe Mancini will support the candidate. However, Mancin recently confirmed his support.

And Veasey expects Democrats to remain united.

“I know both of these senators very well,” he said. I think they will be there, they understand the significance and historical significance of this nomination, and they also understand that this is a very qualified person, “said the congressman.
