HALTOM CITY, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) — Two civilians were killed, one wounded and three officers injured Saturday night when a man with a rifle opened fire in Haltom.

The incident began after an elderly woman called 911 from a home on Diamond Oak Street around 6:45 p.m. to report a shooting. Employees of several departments with tactical equipment arrived at the scene and began searching for the suspect. Three officers suffered non-life threatening injuries after the suspect was found about a mile away and opened fire on them.

In Haltom, the police are on the scene, police officers are looking for the person suspected of shooting.

A woman inside the residence and a man in the driveway of the home were both shot and killed, police said. The elderly woman who called 911 suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect, described as a white male with dark hair, wearing a blue shirt, blue pants and a “battle belt,” is now dead. The police said that he had a rifle and a pistol with him and that he died of a self-inflicted wound.

Haltom City police and the Fort Worth Office of Emergency Management asked residents in the area near Denton Highway and Glenview to stay indoors and shelter in place.

A large ambulance crew from multiple departments including Watauga Fire, North Richland Hills Police and Fort Worth Police responded to the scene. Many officers with shields and tactical gear were also seen heading towards the area, and at one point the police also deployed a robot.

Police said there was a lengthy standoff with the suspect, but did not provide many details. They plan to provide more updates tomorrow.

The Texas Rangers are taking over the investigation.
