A MOTHER was arrested in connection with the death of her two-year-old daughter, a month after the baby was reported to have been shot dead.

Policewoman Jessica Cantu, 35, was charged on Friday with police stabbing her daughter, Juelz Gonzalez, to death after she was shot in the head.

San Antonio police revealed that during the investigation, additional evidence was gathered “including a medical court report that determined the child had not shot himself.”

Police said Cantu was in another room with his four-year-old daughter when she hit the bedroom next to the gun. Juelz was in the room watching a movie on his cell phone.

The only adults in the home were Cantu and her 32-year-old boyfriend, Joshua Ramirez, according to police reports.

“You have a responsibility as a caregiver, you know whether you’re taking real action, you have a duty to protect, you have a duty to act,” said Carrie Wilcoxson, an advocate for child abuse prevention. NEWS4SA.

After the shooting, Ramirez escaped, but was arrested in March. It was later learned that Cantu had bought a gun from Ramirez, who was involved in his daughter’s death, because he could not buy a firearm because it was a crime.

Cantu was initially told law enforcement that he did not know Ramirez had a gun in his home, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

However, he allegedly told police that Ramirez had put a gun in a bag while he was planning to sell the drug.

The bag was found next to Juelz’s bed.

The girl died at the hospital nine days after being shot.

His mother has been charged with endangering a child and is currently in jail on $ 150,000 bail.

Ramirez is charged with possession of a firearm.

There may be more charges in this case, but police said they will come from the prosecutor.

Juelz’s biological father, Julio Gonzalez, was not present at the time of the shooting. He said he lives to pay tribute to his daughter and is praying for all those affected by the loss of a child as a result of gun violence.
