The accident cost the gas station $ 16,000 and fired the gas station manager.
RANCHO CORDOVA, California – There was at least one gas station in the United States this week where customers didn’t feel any pain at the pump.
A California gas station manager was fired for mistakenly selling gas for only part of the actual cost. His mistake allowed hundreds of drivers to save thousands of dollars on premium gasoline.
John Szczecina, the manager of the now-defunct gas station, said he accidentally punched 69 cents instead of $ 6.99. For reference, the current average price of gas in the United States is $ 5.01, and the last time the average price was 69 cents per gallon in 1978.

The error caused customers to call their friends and family to fill it out quickly.
People started posting low prices on social media, and soon the lines outside the gas station began to grow.
“Well, I made a mistake, you know,” he said. “And I just thought, ‘This is a nightmare.’
He was fired on Monday after a decade of losing $ 16,000 to a gas station.
“So I just took responsibility for that,” he said, and I said, “Yes, it’s my fault.”
Now his family is worried that Szczecina could be sued in addition to his dismissal. His family created GoFundMe for him to return $ 16,000.
But business lawyer Craig Zimmerman said Szczecina should be safe from the court. He explained that employees are protected from liability in such cases when they make mistakes while performing normal work duties.
“The only way he will be held accountable without a written agreement is to act outside his scope,” Zimmerman said. For example, if the manager says, “Do what you do, never set the price of that gas pump.” And then he did. “
The failure at the gas station turned out to be a gift for the drivers, but it was also a farewell for the station manager who is now looking for a new job.
