The fire penetrates a two-story house on the East Side, which is considered a complete loss, says SAFD

A two-story house was destroyed after it caught fire and suffered a “major collapse” in the East, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

The fire started around 9:10 a.m. Saturday on Crockett and Mesquite Street.

Firefighters said they found heavy fire on the second floor when the crews arrived. The flames then reached the first floor before the structure collapsed.

Power lines also fell during the fire, according to the SAFD. The house was abandoned and no one was inside. No casualties were reported.

Due to the humid temperatures, the SAFD said it was calling for more support to help firefighters shift and attack hotspots.

The house was completely engulfed in smoke when firefighters used ladder trucks to spray the structure.

“It was defensive from the start,” said an SAFD official.

The fire caused a severe response with at least 32 people on the scene, according to SAFD. At the time of the initial reaction, 14 firefighters responded.
