The Dallas Cowboys pick up the NFL.com rating

The Dallas Cowboys welcomed nine new players into the mix with their 2022 draft class which earned a note of approval on the official NFL website.

DALLAS – The 2022 NFL Draft is in the books, which means instant opinions are flying faster than winged monkeys in the Wicked Witch of the West castle.

Chad Reuter of NFL.com gave the Dallas Cowboys a B grade for his overall work over the three days and seven rounds of the event.

Dallas started Day 1 with a C-plus as they selected Tulsa guard Tyler Smith with the 24th overall pick in Round 1. The Cowboys may have used too much draft capital to lead a talent like Smith who needs a bit of work. to suit the professional game.

However, the Cowboys earned a B-plus rating on Day 2 by choosing Ole Miss Sam Williams defensive wing (round 2, No. 56) and South Alabama wide receiver Jalen Tolbert (round 3, No. 88). Both elections help the Cowboys resolve situations on the list that could arise in the next two to three years.

On Day 3, Dallas selected Wisconsin Wing Jake Ferguson (Round 4, No. 129), North Dakota offensive tackle Matt Waletzko (Round 5, No. 155), Fresno State cornerback DaRon Bland (Round 5). , No. 167), the LSU linebacker. Damone Clark (round 5, 176), defensive tackle John Ridgeway (round 5, 178) and Oklahoma State linebacker Devin Harper (round 6, 193). The Cowboys got a B grade for the final and busiest day of the process.

“Smith could be a dominant career blocker if he is able to improve his patience and technique as he matures, or he could become a first-round offensive lineman who doesn’t reach his potential,” Reuter wrote. “Williams is a talent for passing, but there are off-field problems in his history. The Cowboys got good value in Tolbert, who could become a field threat.”

The Cowboys ’election seems to be the first step in a three-year plan to get younger and improve the quality of the list rather than quick fixes that meet immediate needs. Of the nine picks, Smith appears to be the only one who could come in and take photos as a starter as he will fight fourth-year Connor McGovern for left-wing guard work. Williams and Tolbert could become reliable collaborators at the end of the season, but the signings of Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler address the departure of Randy Gregory, and the arrival of James Washington makes up for the absence of Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson.

To stay competitive, the Cowboys must continue to have above-average drafts. Last year’s draft was heavily boosted by Micah Parsons ’outstanding linebacker of the season. While there doesn’t seem to be a superstar among the nine new faces, they will help Dallas reload the roster as they strive to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in consecutive seasons since 2006-07.
