The couple, found dead on a California hiking trail, probably tried to save the baby, the report said.

A California couple, who reportedly died on a remote hiking trail in the Sierra National Forest in August, may have succumbed to extreme heat, water shortages and exertion with a one-year-old family dog.

John Gerish, wife Ellen Chung, one-year-old daughter Miju, and their dog were all found dead on a hiking trail near the Sierra National Forest Height Cove.

Family friends reported that they went missing after they did not return from the day’s hiking trip.

Gerrish also missed a job as a software engineer. Their deaths were considered mysterious, and theories ranged from murder to the possibility of exposure to toxic gas from nearby abandoned mines.

The San Francisco Chronicle received a 77-page report on their death, and investigators determined that there was a deadly combination of “disastrous choices” that could lead to tragedy.

Authorities reportedly first located the bodies of Gerish, children, and dogs. Chung’s search continued, and her body was found “at the top of the hill,” about 13 feet higher than her family.

Trail temperatures were cruel during the summer and the couple apparently did not have enough water. One doctor reportedly told investigators that “the clock was ticking” the moment he started hiking.

A survival trainer told investigators that the couple believed he believed, “If they were surprised and they noticed their situation, they died trying to save each other with their children.” ..

“The child may have begun to succumb first, which hastened the efforts of parents to climb the hill. When one can no longer continue, they are behind to take care of the child and pet. The other tried to forge and get help. Their loved ones. It’s the greatest tragedy. “
