Apple iOS 16
Apple announced its new iPhone software, iOS 16, during a developer conference on Monday. The new lock screen settings suggest that at least one of this year’s new iPhones will get the feature of Android phones for years to come: the display is always on.
Apple iOS 16 software, which is in beta and will be released for everyone this fall, allows you to add a variety of things to the lock screen. This way, you can quickly view the weather, the battery status of your AirPods, future calendar events and more. However, on the current iPhone you still need to press the power button to turn on the screen.
But if Apple adds a permanently enabled display to its next iPhone, it will allow you to just take a look at the new lock screen on your phone while it sits at your desk. This is something that Samsung, Google and other Android phone makers have been incorporating into their phones for years. Apple did not shy away from adding this option, perhaps to focus on longer battery life. Always turning on the display can slowly deplete the battery, even if the screen is much dimmer.
This is an always-on display mode that minimizes the screen to save battery.

The Apple Watch Series 5 and newer models always have displays on and they work well. On the clock you can look down and see the time, temperature and certain programs such as maps, even if the screen is not fully turned on or is lit. It is dim, so you can still use the watch without having to click your wrist to wake it up.
The new iPhone can work the same way, showing key information you choose to place on the lock screen without requiring you to wake your phone to full brightness.
Bloomberg said it is a feature that Apple already plans to add to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, higher-end models expected this fall. This means it may not be available on a regular iPhone 14. But it can be a pretty attractive feature that people will want to spend more on the Pro model.
