The 13th Diwali SA Light Festival returns to Hemis Fair

San Antonio – The 13th Diwali SA Light Festival will return directly to San Antonio this year after a virtual event in 2020.

The festival will be held at Hemis Fair from 6 pm to 10 pm on November 6th

Light displays at the Hemisfair from Alamo Street to the Tower of the Americas dance to the music of the Indian film industry, according to festival officials.

There are also dias or floating candles that event attendees shoot at the Hemisfair fountain.

Other festivals include dance performances, art displays, food, jewelry, handicrafts and henna vendors.

According to, Diwali, which means a row of light, is traditionally a five-day festival that serves as a way to celebrate the new beginning of the victory of light over evil and light over darkness.

According to the website, the Diwali festival is considered one of the largest festivals in India and is celebrated in Hinduism and various other beliefs.


Not only is this one of India’s largest festivals, according to city officials, the San Antonio Diwali Light Festival has become the largest city-approved Diwali event in the United States.

“This year’s return of DiwaliSA to Hemisfair is welcome news. DiwaliSA has grown into one of San Antonio’s most important cultural and arts festivals, bringing together the diverse and rich culture of India, which has a sister city relationship with Chennai. We have rallyed the community to celebrate, “said Mayor Ron Nirenberg.
