Texas Inventions that Conquered the World

Texas has always been a place full of resourceful people who have had to use their invention and imagination to get by. So, it is no wonder that the state has produced many inventions that have had a global impact. Here are just a few Texas inventions that have conquered the world.

The hand-held calculator

Did you know the world’s first handheld calculator was produced in the Lone Star State? It all started back in the 1960s when electronic desktop calculators were an essential item for those looking to keep up with the latest technological trends. Anyone who was anyone had a calculator on their desk, especially if they owned a business.

To make life even easier for these people, a Dallas-based company called Texas Instruments developed one of the first hand-held calculators, the Cal-Tech, which was first revealed in 1967. The invention was revolutionary and flew off the shelves when it was launched to the public in 1970. The same company also produced the first single-chip microcomputer in 1971.

Texas Hold ‘em

Long before calculators became part of daily life, the game of Texas Hold ‘em was being played across the state in the early 20th century. The exact origins of the card game are unclear, but Robstown, Texas, has been officially recognized as the birthplace of Hold ’em. This variant of poker was exported to Las Vegas in the early 1960s and is now one of the most popular card games on the planet.

The game’s popularity really took off with the introduction of online casinos in the early 21st century. Playing online proved to be hugely popular with games available around the clock. More recently, live dealer games have also appeared and there are specialist websites to help you compare the best casinos as well as learn the basic rules of the game. As a good example, this is what we found online. Using these comparison sites ensures that you always play on websites that are safe, legal, and trusted.

The popular carbonated soda drink was first introduced to the public in 1885 by a pharmacist called Charles Alderton in Waco, Texas. It was launched a year before Coca-Cola and by 1904 it was available nationwide. Dr Pepper went on to become a global brand and is still going strong today.
