Demand for retail gasoline remains strong across the United States as more people travel this summer compared to 2020. US gasoline sales increased 3.6% week-on-week, according to data from the Oil Price Information Service.
Crude oil prices are much higher than last year. As a result, retail prices for gasoline are on average nearly $ 1 higher per gallon. The cost of crude oil accounts for about half of the cost paid by pumps.
“Crude oil prices, which are the biggest factor in the amount we pump, are on a roller coaster this week,” said AAA Texas spokesman Daniel Alm Blaster. “Crude oil prices fell sharply at the beginning of the week, but recovered quickly.”
