London (Reuters) – Eighth-seeded Karolina Pliskova defeated Tereza Martincov 6-3 6-3 in the Czech battle on the second court to play in the final 16 games at Wimbledon on Friday.
Former world number one Pliskova dropped his first hurdle at tune-up tournaments in Berlin and Eastbourne last month, but 29-year-old Pliskova hasn’t dropped the set at Wimbledon yet.
The last time they met was in the first round of the 2019 US Open, where they rarely separated from each other as Priscova moved forward after winning a tiebreaker in two sets.
Pliskova made 36 forced errors and nine double faults, but struggled with his first serve and fired 30 winners, surpassing his compatriots who converted only one chance at a breakpoint.
Priscova, who has at least reached the quarterfinals of all Grand Slams except Wimbledon, will play either American Sloane Stephens or Russian wildcard Ludmila Samsonova in the next round.
