Stockholm (Reuters) -Sweden telecommunications regulator PTS January after Chinese court approval, despite Huawei’s legal action on exclusion from 5G networks Announced that it will resume the 5G spectrum auction on the 19th.
A Swedish court on Wednesday upheld PTS’s appeal against the auction suspension decision, but also said telecommunications equipment supplier Huawei could file a legal objection over the country’s exclusion from 5G deployments.
The United States is pressing allies to ban Huawei’s equipment from 5G networks, claiming that Beijing could use it for espionage. Huawei denies that this is possible.
Sweden banned Huawei and China’s rival ZTE from deploying 5G due to security risks in October, giving companies participating in 5G auctions until January 1, 2025, from their existing infrastructure and core capabilities. Announced that it will allow the removal of gear.
However, after Huawei’s complaint led to a court injunction, the auction was forced to cancel.
The PTS said on Friday that it would contact participants and hold an auction despite the fact that the terms are subject to legal review.
Kenneth Fredricksen, Executive Vice President of Central Eastern Europe and Scandinavia at Huawei, said it was difficult to understand how a good auction could go.
“I think there are court proceedings in progress and everyone just has to wait and see,” he told Reuters.
The auction, which is essential for 5G deployment in Japan, has been postponed twice. The first is for a security review and the second is for a Huawei legal objection.
“We are very pleased that PTS has scheduled this important auction,” said Staffan Åkesson, Chief Technology Officer of carrier Telia.
Rival Tre, who signed a contract with Huawei to build a network in Sweden and filed a proceeding against PTS, said it was ready for auction, although “some legal question marks” remained. Said.
