Announcement

Matthew Gretler hit a home run for Oregon State in the seventh inning, and No. 1 starter Cooper Hjerpe threw the last two innings in his first relay appearance to secure a 7-6 victory over Vanderbilt.

“I felt good and told them that if you needed me, I’m ready,” said Hjerpe, who was working on a two-day break after throwing 100 pitches in 6 2/3 innings on Friday.

East Carolina’s eighth inning of eight races opened with a 13-2 victory over Carolina da Costa.

Auburn won a regional in their home field for the first time since 1999, beating UCLA 11-4 in the end of a game suspended on Sunday night due to rain.

Cameron Masterman’s tiebreaker in the eighth inning sent Louisville to an 11-9 win over Michigan and the super-regionals for the seventh time since 2013.

Announcement

Southern Mississippi returns to the super-regionals for the first time since 2009 after taking the lead in the ninth in a sacrifice to beat LSU 8-7.

Tim Elko hit three homers and Kemp Alderman hit a grand slam in Mississippi’s 22-6 loss to Arizona.

Gage Gillian and Davis Palermo teamed up to throw 5 1/3 one-shot relief innings to help send North Carolina to a third super-regional in a row with a 7-3 win over VCU.

Peyton Graham hit a homer during an eighth inning of four runs that erased a two-run deficit and Oklahoma beat Florida 5-4 to return to the supers for the first time since 2013.

Announcement

Connecticut held Maryland 11-8 and became the current Big East first team since St. Louis. John’s in 2012 in winning a regional.

Arkansas Hagen Smith escaped a base-laden jam with his team going up two runs in the eighth, and the Razorbacks defeated Oklahoma State No. 7 7-3 to reach a fourth straight super-regional. The Hogs have maintained an OSU offense that has scored 10, 12, 29 and 14 runs in its previous four games.

RUN IN LITTLE

Auburn became the first team in SEC history to score at least 50 runs in its first three games of the tournament. The Tigers outscored their opponents 51-18 and hit 12 doubles and 11 homers.

“Our offense was the No. 1 key. No. 2 was our top three pitchers,” said coach Butch Thompson. “It’s nice when you’re in this phase and playing your best baseball of the year, and I thought we did.

A MOUNTAIN TOO HIGH?

East Carolina is in its third consecutive super-regional and is looking to reach its first University World Series. The Pirates have played in the tournament 31 times, most of any NCAA team that has never been to Omaha.

Announcement

The Pirates are 1-12 in their six super-regional appearances, and have amassed two combined runs in four games in the previous two.

WE PLAY HOCKEY

Dan McDonnell used their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. Instead of talking baseball to his players, he talks about hockey.

The tournament coincides with the NHL postseason, and McDonnell preaches to his players about competing with the same intensity as a hockey team in a Game 7 situation.

It should work. The Cardinals fought the elimination three times in their local field. After beating Michigan 11-9 on Monday, McDonnell came out of the dugout wearing a hockey jersey.

“It’s a Lamar Jackson hockey jersey,” he said, referring to the Baltimore Ravens quarterback who played in Louisville. “I’m not sure where we got it, but it’s great.”
