Putin’s warplanes bomb Russian city: video shows Su-34 jet attack narrowly missed apartment block

Russian fighter jets accidentally bombed their own city of Belgorod near the Ukrainian border last night in a humiliating failure by Vladimir Putin’s forces.

The video shows the moment an SU-34 fighter accidentally detonated a bomb into a city of more than 400,000 people on Thursday night, narrowly missing a block of apartments.

The explosion injured at least two women, destroyed homes, and left a crater about 70 feet in diameter in Belgorod, about 15 miles from the Ukrainian border.

Video footage from the scene showed what could have been a much more serious disaster, with piles of concrete on the street, several cars damaged, and a building with broken glass.

Citing preliminary information, Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of the Belgorod region, said one woman was hospitalized with a head injury and another was treated at the scene after the explosion.

A shock wave threw a car onto the roof of a convenience store in Pyaterochka.

The failure was in the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine and is very tense because of Putin’s war.

About 30 people have been killed and 123 injured here since his invasion began, as Ukraine responds to an overwhelming Russian aggression.

The Belgorod region is one of several regions in southern Russia where explosions have shaken targets such as fuel and ammunition depots since the start of the war.

In video footage, a flash is seen lighting up the night sky as the bomb hits the ground.

The Ministry of Defense quickly admitted its error.

“A Su-34 aircraft of the Aerospace Forces was flying over the city of Belgorod when an abnormal drop of aviation ammunition occurred,” the statement said.

“It was miraculous that no one died, at least according to the official figures,” journalist Dmitry Kolesev reported.

“The foreign ministry seems to have decided that it is better to allow the suicide bombing than to allow the Ukrainian military to launch such a powerful attack on a Russian city.”

The bomb is suspected to be a Soviet-designed 500 kg (1,100 lb) general purpose airdropped bomb, a modernized FAB-500M62 with a high-explosive warhead.

It is considered “precise” and has been used to hit Ukrainian targets.

These munitions were reportedly used hastily in war and are prone to error.

As quoted by Agentstvo, OSINT analyst Kirill Mikhailov said:

“Something went wrong with this process.”

Regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that “investigation teams and officials from the Ministry of Emergency Situations are working on the spot.”

The city is about 25 miles from the Ukrainian border and 50 miles from Kharkov, Ukraine’s second largest city.

The Su-34 is considered Russia’s “frontline bomber”.

About 10% is estimated to have been lost in the war against Ukraine launched by Putin about 14 months ago.

In October 2022, a Su-34 fighter-bomber crashed and caught fire near a high-rise residential building in Yeysk, Krasnodar Region, Russia.

A total of 15 people died.

Six days later, a Su-30 military plane crashed into a two-story house in Irkutsk.
