SAN ANTONIO – St. Mary’s University announced the creation of a scholarship fund in honor of a student whose daughter was among the 19 students killed in a shooting at a school in Uwalde.
Alexandria Lexi Scholarship Fund A. Rubio honors Lexi and her aspirations to attend law school at St. Mary’s University.
Lexi was an excellent student at Rob School, who was killed the same day she received the Good Citizen Award from her school. Her mother, Kimberly Mata-Rubio, is a history major at St. Mary’s University and lives in Uwalde with her children and husband.
University officials said the scholarship fund was set up after many StMU alumni expressed interest in creating one in her memory and after talking to the victim’s family.
The fund will award scholarships to students from the Faculty of Law St. Mary’s, which illustrate the spirit of intellectual curiosity, endurance and her deep devotion to family values. Once fully funded, the donations to this fund will support selected students who are pursuing legal education based on their financial needs, ”the fund’s website said.
