Sources say Biden will take action to encourage solar projects that have been studied

President Joe Biden will take action on Monday to help bridge the gap between solar power supplies and launch suspended projects in the United States after an investigation froze imports from major foreign suppliers, sources familiar with the matter said.

The measures are due to concerns about the impact of a month – long investigation by the Ministry of Commerce into whether imports of solar batteries from four countries in Southeast Asia are circumventing tariffs on products made in China.

Biden will also push for defense legislation to force U.S. production of solar batteries and other cleaner technologies in the future, with the support of loans and subsidies, sources added.

“It’s going to be a safe haven for toll collection, and that’s the crux of what will save all these solar projects and ensure that they continue,” said a source familiar with White. Plans of the house.

Governors, MPs, industry officials and environmentalists have expressed concern about the investigation, which could lead to retroactive tariffs of up to 250%.

It has effectively stopped imports from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, which account for more than half of US solar batteries and 80% of imports.

The investigation has had a chilling effect on the industry, say clean energy groups, some of which have asked Gina Raimondo, the Minister of Commerce, to dismiss her, even though she has said she has no scope to influence it.

The anonymous source said Biden’s move would restore confidence in the US solar energy market and reduce companies’ concerns about having billions of dollars in reserves to pay for possible tariffs.

The study, announced at the end of March, could take 150 days or more to complete.

The case has created a unique problem for the White House, which is willing to show US leadership in climate change, among other things by encouraging the use of renewable energy, while respecting and keeping a distance from the research process.

By using implementing measures and appeals to the DPA, which enables presidents to have power over domestic industries, Biden enables it to take advantage of the tools at its disposal without stepping on the tariff inquiry.
