Army soldiers stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, were recovered on Wednesday, the day after they were reported missing during training.

After being reported missing on Tuesday, paramedics began looking for soldiers, but were unable to recover until the next day.

The soldier, who has not yet been identified until family notice, is the fifth death toll during training at Fort Campbell since 2015.

All activities in the reservoir where the soldiers were missing were canceled and the area was off limits until further notice.

Crew members of Fort Campbell Fire and Emergency Services, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, and Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services were unable to recover until Wednesday morning.

The case is under investigation.

Fort Campbell is home to the fifth largest military population in the Army, including members of the 101st Airborne Division known as the “Screaming Eagles.” Its 105,000 acres are partly in Tennessee and partly in Kentucky.

The fort takes pride in “rigorous, realistic military exercises that take place on a regular basis to provide the unit with a unique edge for real-world missions.”

However, WSTV reports that five soldiers have died during the last six years of training.

They include electrician Jeremy J. Wells, who was killed during live-fire training in 2018. Death from another live ammunition training in May 2016. A civilian who died during a 6-mile road march in June 2015. Another person shot dead during the October 2015 exercise.
