(Reuters) – Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra was sexually abused by her teacher at the age of 13, the French claimed in an interview with the Times on Friday.
Abuse is explained in detail in Evra’s upcoming autobiography, “I Love This Game.”
Evra, now 40, said it was difficult to talk about the abuse in an interview, but it was even more difficult to tell her mother who was informed about the incident just two weeks ago.
“Of course she was devastated. It was a tough moment for me. I still have to talk to a few brothers and sisters and close friends,” said Evra, who was capped 81 times by France. ..
“I don’t want people to feel sympathy. It’s a difficult situation. Mothers don’t expect to hear this from their children.”
“It was a big shock to her. A lot of anger. She said I’m sorry. She said,” You shouldn’t put it in your book, it’s a private Patrice. ” But that’s when I say, “Mom, it’s not about me, it’s about other kids,” and she says OK, she understands.
Evra did not consider formal accusation, but added that his mother advised him to sue the criminal.
Evra joined United in 2006 and won the Champions League five times in the Premier League. He then retired in July 2019 after playing for Juventus, Olympique de Marseille and West Ham United.
