Snell loses Gem in 7th place and Padres loses to Angels Adele 4-0

San Diego – Padres left-handed Blake Snell made another bid for the Gem, but this didn’t work very well when the Los Angeles Angels defeated the no-hitter no-run with two outs in the seventh inning and defeated the Padres 4. 0 Tuesday night.

After playing a perfect game in the seventh inning, Snell walked two batters and allowed Jo Adell a two-run single on the 96th pitch. Adele finished with 3 RBIs.

A week ago, Snell hit seven no-hitters in Arizona with a pitch count of 107. Padres won 3-0 with a total of 3 at bats.

Snell (7-6) was aiming for his ninth major no-hitter no-run this year. This surpassed the record of eight sets in 1884, allowing overhand pitching for the first season.

Joe Musgrove launched a no-hitter no-hitter this year, throwing the first no-hitter no-hitter in San Diego’s history at the second start of the local team.

Snell retired the first 18 Angels batters on 66 pitches, followed by David Fletcher in 7th place. Luis Rengoo appeared to have defeated the infield hit bunt, but Padres appealed and a video replay showed that Snell tagged Rengoo before he got to the bag. The call has been overturned.

Snell defeated Phil Goserin before walking Jack Mayfield. Adele hit the liner to the left, ending Snell’s bid for Nono and defeating the scoreless tie.

It was the only hit Snell was allowed to hit 11 in 7 innings. He won the championship for the third time in a row with double-digit strikeouts, and this is the sixth time this year.

Snell turned the inconsistent season around with three strong starts. On August 25, he threw his career’s best 122 pitches in 7 2/3 innings and did not make a decision against rival Los Angeles Dodgers in San Diego’s 5-3, 16 innings home loss.

Snell was acquired on December 29th in a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jimmy Harget (2-1) threw two innings to win. The Padres continued to hold the second NL wildcard spot.

Rengifo took Emilio Pagan at home, leading 9th and 3rd place. Adele scored one RBI.

Shohei Ohtani wasn’t the Angels starting pitcher because there was no DH in the Interleague NL Park. The two-way star hit for the eighth time and singled off Tim Hill.

Angels starter Packy Naughton allowed two hits in five innings, hit five and walked two.

Manager Joe Maddon said the Angels will throw a bullpen game at the series finale on Wednesday night. RHP Yu Darvish (7-9, 4.05) is scheduled to start in the Padres.
