Sir Tom Jones has denied falling on his last show in Budapest on Tuesday evening, stressing that his sudden cancellation was caused by a viral infection.
The legendary singer, 82, fell ill on her Surrounded by Time tour before her last European date and was told by doctors to cancel the show.
But he has since refuted claims of a collapse at the MVM Dome in the Hungarian capital, saying the reprogramming of the show was the result of “viral laryngitis”.
Speaking: Sir Tom Jones has denied that he fell in Budapest on Tuesday evening before his last show, stressing that the cancellation was caused by a viral infection.
He told Instagram followers: “Hello everyone worry. Bart traveled from the UK to Budapest and woke up this morning with an uncomfortable throat.
“An expert came on the visit and diagnosed ‘viral laryngitis.’
He added: ‘I wasn’t going to‘ collapse ’anywhere, that’s just a rumor. I hope the inflammation subsides soon as I look forward to continuing my wonderful summer tour.
“Unfortunately at the last minute the show had to be canceled, and I’m very sorry about that. However, they have re-organized the show in Budapest and it will be on August 16th. Thank you again for your kind concern. ”
Busy: On Friday, he took to the stage of the Sir Tom Henley Festival and then played in Norfolk and Halifax over the weekend, before heading to Budapest as part of his tour.
Initially, the Welsh star was believed to have fallen before the show while crossing the UK and mainland Europe.
A source told MailOnline: “Tom Jones fell, so his concert was canceled the night and doctors were called to the stadium. His management has set August 16 as the new date for the concert.”
The source said he fell for about an hour before the concert, but hoped he could continue with the concert.
But after orders from private doctors, Sir Tom had to cancel the concert a few minutes before going up on stage, according to stage designer Péter Kovács.
A message from the hall translated into English added: “Unfortunately, following medical advice, Tom Jones regrets that he was unable to deliver at the MVM Dome this afternoon.
‘The screening will be postponed to Tuesday, August 16, 2022. All entries will be valid for the updated date. ‘
“Sir Tom sends his sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused, but he hopes to play for you in August.”
According to local news, the National Ambulance Service said they had not called the place.
A spokesman for the Surrounded by Time tour confirmed to the Hungarian news index Index that Tom was ill.
Sir Tom’s website is showing a new tour date at the MVM Dome in Budapest on 16 August.

After spending time in Amsterdam last Wednesday, Sir Tom took to Instagram to say he had experienced an “electric night” on the Ziggo Dome stage.
Sir Tom has traveled the world for his long-awaited Surrounded By Time tour and has shared regular photos of his travels and shows on Instagram.
He has more than 50 dates on his European and US tour and the singer has been performing in K. aThey will cross Germany, Croatia, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway and Belgium in the coming weeks.
Illness: Following orders from private doctors, Sir Tom (pictured March 2021) was forced to cancel his concert.
In August, Sir Tom will return to the UK for more tour dates, including performances in Edinburgh and Essex, before heading to the United States.
He plans to visit states like New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut before heading to Canada to play in Toronto, Montreal and Windsor.
Sir Tom’s 55-day tour will return to the Americas for other shows before ending on October 12 with the final performance in San Francisco.
Announcing the new dates for his tour in April, Sir Tom wrote: “Enthusiastic to tour the UK / Europe this summer!
Performances: The European and US tour has more than 50 dates and the singers will be performing in cities in Germany, Croatia, Italy, Norway and Belgium in the coming weeks.
“It’s always a joy to be with my great team and to see all of you and the fun you have in the shows.
‘Tickets are on sale now. Which one will you come to too? See you soon x. ‘
In 2017, Sir Tom was forced to postpone a 21-day US tour until next year, following medical orders.
He was scheduled to begin his final live concerts on September 6, 2017 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and would continue until October 7 of the same year with a final concert in Tulsan, Oklahoma.
Tour: In August, Sir Tom will return to the UK for more tour dates, including performances in Edinburgh and Essex, before heading to the United States.
But in a statement to fans at the time, the singer said that all US tour dates had been postponed until 2018.
His representative then announced: “Following medical advice, Sir Tom Jones has announced that he will sadly postpone his US tour, which will begin on Wednesday, September 6, in Bethlehem (Pen).
‘The dates for May and June 2018 are being rescheduled and all entries will be valid for the new dates, the details of which will be available as soon as possible.
“Tom sends sincere apologies to his fans and hopes to see them all again in 2018.”
