Will Smith’s rendition of Chris Rock at the Oscars received a response from Venus’s father, Serena Williams, who was featured by Smith in “King Richard.”

According to his son, Richard Williams did not support violence.

“We don’t know all the details of what happened. But we don’t allow hitting anyone else unless it’s for personal safety,” Richard Williams said through his son, Chavoita LeSane, to NBC News.

LeSane continued to share the excitement of Venus and Serena as people at home during this viral time. LeSane declined to comment further for Richards, 80.

Smith, 53, first spoke minutes after the performance, when he won Best Actor for his role in “King Richard.” During his tearful confession, Smith conceived the real father of tennis stars.

“Richard Williams was a strong defender of his family,” Smith said as he began his acceptance speech after winning the best theater awards. He later apologized to many people – including Venus and Serena Williams – but did not tell Rock he was sorry.

The school issued a statement on Sunday, saying it “will not condone any form of abuse.”
