San Antonio – San Antonio’s mother wants to share her story so that others can become blood donors and give life gifts this holiday season.
Ashley Barnes suffered from blood clots and bleeding two weeks after giving birth to his son. She needed 19 bags of blood and 4 bags of plasma during emergency surgery.
She knows that each of those bags represents the person who donated.
“You are saving someone’s life, or helping someone who needs blood for the various illnesses they are overcoming,” Burns said. “But in any case, overall, you are saving lives. You can make yourself feel comfortable doing great things that day and in the world to help someone else. . “
The South Texas Blood Tissue Center said donors are especially needed during vacations when donations are usually reduced. One of the reasons for the decline is that high school and college students are taking a break. Its population makes up 30% of all donations.
While donations are declining, the need for blood is increasing. This year, hospital blood orders have increased by as much as 20%. Donations often make the difference between life and death.
Due to the amount of blood she received, Burns cannot donate, so instead she shares her story as a defender of the blood donor. She wants her story to inspire others to roll up their sleeves.
STBTC has several donor rooms throughout San Antonio. Click here for a link to your booking.
