San Antonio is under a red flag warning until 5pm on Tuesday. What does this mean?
The National Meteorological Service issued a red flag warning by 5pm on Tuesday for Bexar, Lano, Real, Kerr, Bandera, Gillespie, Kendall, Blanco, Hayes, Uwalde, Medina, Komal, Guadalupe and Caldwell counties.
A red flag warning means that weather conditions will lead to a high risk of fire. Tuesday afternoon is very dry with a relative humidity of 10-20%. The wind is from the north with a speed of 15-25 mph, gusts to 30-35 mph.
It was also incredibly dry, so any fires will spread quickly. To avoid fire:
-
No campfires or burning piles
-
Avoid using tools that create sparks such as chainsaws
-
Dispose of cigarettes properly
